About CHARM
WHO WE ARE
C.H.A.R.M. = COMMUNITY. HUMANITY. ART. REPRESENTATION. MEDIA.
We produce, share, and highlight local & global multimedia that centers marginalized communities and directs public attention to related social justice missions.
CHARM is a Hudson Valley based media outlet, run by folks with a passion for art, education, activism and community building! Using a “for us, by us” approach, we run photo and video productions, publish print and digital media, host events, and partner with local organizations and businesses to support marginalized communities and help fund grassroots movements.
Our team is led by, in collaboration with, and in support of those who are:
- BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, & People of Color)
- LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and beyond)
- Disabled & Neurodivergent (The spectrum of visible and non-visible disabilities, disorders, pains, and/or illnesses, which may be physical, neurological, and/or developmental in nature)
- Women & Non-Binary Folks (As well as other feminine presenting or non-gendered people impacted by the Patriarchy)
- Immigrants & Children of Immigrants (and other internationally marginalized groups)

- Performance Art
- Live Shoots
- Crafting/Making
- Other types of Visual Art
- Artistic & Cultural Community Events
…which will be used for:
- Art installations & exhibitions
- Magazine publication & distribution
- Posters, art prints, & wall art
- Social media content creation
OUR “WHY”
We live in an digital image and video-dominated world.
The most popular way that the general population receives information, learns about current events, or furthers their education, is through images, video, and articles found while browsing through on the internet. So we respond by creating just that, in order to meet the following goals:
COMMUNITY:
- Form strong community bonds & support systems through engaging, collaborative, joint efforts
- Become a part of a larger directory promoting local talent, business, organizations, and public figures, with a “for us, by us” approach
HUMANITY:
- Heighten awareness about current events throughout the world via artistic commentary
- Promote and support the causes, efforts, and movements aligned with our values
- Educate others, and to learn from others as well
ART:
- Create space for beauty to be less about standards, and more about freedom, love, and expression
- Our very existence is art. We believe there’s something beautiful about our minds, our passions, our presentation, the way we bond, communicate, and humanity overall
- Escape the hamster wheel of “hustle culture” within the art world, putting art back to a place where it is created out of love and leisure
REPRESENTATION:
- Increase visibility for folks within marginalized communities
- Display real & raw representation that reflects our reality as well as presenting dreams for the future
- Build self esteem and empower those who are the focus of our work
MEDIA:
- Document vulnerable moments in time by curating therapeutic, eye opening experiences that help people feel seen, heard, and loved
- Capture the essence of the beauty that continues to radiate from us, despite all of the structural and institutional barriers that impact us
- Show the power and value of imagery, because it serves a great purpose in our society
